Statutory medical examinations for workers exposed to specifi c health hazards in factories
were fi rst introduced under the Factories (Medical Examinations) Regulations in 1985. These
examinations must be conducted by Designated Factory Doctors (DFDs) registered with the
Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
